And I'm gonna highjack your thread for a second. It does sorta apply though. I have two frogs in QT, had three, one died and the two that are left weren't doing well. Thought it may have been the temp, so based on Mac's rec'd I bought a Mini Hydor, which is keeping the temp stable. But yesterday, and this is about the third or fourth time, after their bath and w/c - when we put them back in their QT, they start to float upside down and act dead. And I think I've figured out why! The ph! And I've answered a couple of questions that I had about the ph. As you know, my tap ph is around 8 or higher. But I asked here and at "some other place" if the ph out of the tap would be too high and was pretty much told not to worry about it. The "other place" actually told me that it was a false reading and she never had a creature die from a "false reading". Well, I beg to differ! My frog died and I can't think of anything else that it COULD be! Tested the tap water and all was good except the ph. Tested the water in the QT and again, all was well except ph. Even the temperature is good now. My ph does drop eventually, but apparently not quick enough for the frogs. And another question that I had about ph that I have answered is, "will the ph gas off in a small necked container?". Answer, No it will not. I was suspecting the problem might be the ph, so day before yesterday, I set out tap water in a gal water container (like a milk container) to allow it to gas off. It was that water that we used last night in the frogs and as I said after adding it to the QT, I tested the water in the QT and the ph was still too high. So last night, in preparation for the bath and w/c today, I put tap water in a bucket, added Neutral regulator and Prime. Today, the ph in QT and in the bucket is 7.4. Last night, after I noticed the poor froggers going down for the count, I dissolved some Regulator and added it to QT and eventually they recovered! The only thing that is weird to me, and maybe you can answer T, is in all of my tanks with the addition of the Regulator, coral gravel in the filters and time, my ph eventually stabilizes at 7 to 7.2. I don't know why the ph in the bucket and frog QT is 7.4 unless its because 1. Not enough time has passed and 2. I don't have coral gravel in there.
