Her losing scales would likely be from the flashing she's still doing. As explained before, the velvet infestation has probably become more severe up to starting the meds. Still eating is a good sign! The meds can make the water cloudy. M2 can make it cloudy and yellow. Often, antiparasitic meds can discolour the water as well (if it has malachite green in it... and can stain some objects in the tank or silicone if the tank is glass). The water is likely not "murkey" from waste but from the meds (that is normal). As long as you're picking up the food and poo... your water should be in good shape, especially if you're doing daily 25% waterchanges... it will not only reoxygenate the water (which will help in healing, even though bettas don't soley rely on oxygenated water), as well as work to keep the water clean. Thanks for the update Kaysea. I'm glad she's still with us. Yes, perhaps the meds are taking a bit longer b/c of the interference from using AmQuel. I'd stick solely with Prime. Bottled/spring water should be conditioned as well (with Prime), as this conditioner also removes possible heavy metals that may be present in the bottled/spring water, and these are dangerous to the fish as well... so the short answer is yes... I would still treat bottled/spring water with Prime... or it would be better to continue to use your tap and treat with Prime... particularly if the pH is different from the bottled/spring water vs the water she's been accustomed to since you brought her home. Huge differences in pH can stress a fish greatly. You can do the 100% waterchange today. In a 2 gallon... you should change it every 5-6 days 100% (with the daily partials inbetween per the meds). Just be sure to medicate the freshly changed tank at this new time. I spoke to Ash about this... she did say that velvet can infest the gills as well... and b/c the medication was delayed... the infestation is likely more severe... coupled that with the med being less effective b/c of the AmQuel... the recovery process, if we're not too late, will take that much longer. I hope now that the medication will start to have some good affect on her. Some of the good antiparasitics that we recommend appears to have some good affects on gill flukes (if there is a chance this is it). Have you looked closely at her inflamed gill area (with a magnifying glass) to see if the possible flukes are visible? I think we asked this before but didn't get an answer. It is hard to see but apparently are often visible. I still think this is unlikely however, b/c of the low risk of it being introduced into her tank. And yes, scales can grow back. Keep us posted... Michele
