Hello and welcome to FnF! The main issues that I hear from you are the clamped fins, poor appetite, pale color and darting/rubbing in the tank. These suggect to me a parasitic infection, most likely Velvet (which isn't always visible to the naked eye), which I would treat with RidIch+ or Maracide.
I think that I see the reddish tumor-like thing on the gill cover that you are referring to but this is not a thyroid tumor (wrong location) and looks like a benign non-worrisome lesion that requires no treatment. Healthy gills under the cover are normally very red in color. Some gill material can stick out from under the cover from trauma and some sticks out from infection (parasitic or bacterial). Maybe clarification of what you are seeing or a better pic might help me here. Howevre, since she is breathing normally, I'm not too excited about there being a serious gill problem at this moment. Your pH is perfect. The salt won't help your betta imo... she is a freshwater fish and does not require salt. What, how much and how often were you feeding the betta - wondering about the SBD aspect of things. It sounds like your other betta with the curled up bloody fins that died had fin rot with probable spread of bacterial infection into the bloodstream. Glad you found us! Bard

Hey Kaysea, Welcome to FnF from me too! First, I have to say you seem to be doing a great job with your bettas despite the illnesses they have/had. Sometimes, things are out of our control... I agree with Dr. Barb that treating her with Maracide (or RidIch+) is in order. In a couple of the pictures, she almost appears to have a greyish dusting (which is one of the "colours" of velvet -- grey, rusty or goldish).
Coppersafe is NOT safe, actually. Copper-based meds are not very safe... too much and it becomes toxic, too little does nothing.
I'd see how she does on the antiparasitic meds... this may help her gill cover too... as it could be the result of injury from flashing (rubbing) against the objects/walls.
Have the water params always been pristine with frequent water changes? Do you ever test for ammonia? If the fin rot is persistant despite pristine water conditions (all the time), then you can try Maracyn 2 (antibiotic). This can be safely combined with Maracide OR RidIch+. While it's good to be cautious with meds... b/c indiscriminate use of antibiotics in particular creates super-bugs and resistance... waiting too long to treat can make the infection harder to fight. Jasmine is a very pretty girl... I love the cambies! Keep us posted!! Michele *edited for typo

Hey Kaysea, Sorry you've had a rough time last night and today. I've been trying to get on here all day... but it's been a busy day, and I suspect it's the same for the others right now. Hmmm.... a violent reaction to Maracide is pretty rare... it's actually considered mild for sensitive fish, including young frylings. It may have been coincidental that she started flashing after you dosed the med... or maybe there was a mild irritation that caused this b/c her gills are inflamed, likely from the velvet. How long did the flashing last? Did she settle down after a bit before you changed her out? The only other med that we recommend that is effective and generally tolerated well is RidIch+, however, it's considered a bit stronger. You could try this, but you should do a 25% waterchange daily prior to dosing the RI+ as it depletes the oxygen content in the water. Or... you could try Maracide again, and see if she has a similar reaction. If you previously put the med directly in the tank... maybe try mixing it in some siphoned out tank water first and then pouring it in... and being careful not to pour it directly on your betta?? As well... how much did you administer?
The white spots you saw... do they look like salt or sugar grains... or do they look a bit bigger than that and maybe fuzzy? The fuzziness may indicate a fungal or flex infection... if so, we would recommend antibiotics (Maracyn/Maracyn2 OR Kanaplex).
I know how you feel, Kaysea... these little fish have a way of stealing chunks of our hearts. I hope she responds more favourably to treatment. Keeping good thoughts for her! Please continue to keep us posted! Michele
