The little boy (ok, 12 years old isn't little, I guess) who watched our dogs for us when I went to fetch my husband from school last month was given a betta, tank, and everything he needed to properly care for it by yours truly as a "thank you." His parents and I figured money wouldn't be the best idea for a young man who has problems actually saving his money =)
He got a log, plant, gravel, air stone, pump, tubing (but the bubbles bother the boy), water conditioner, 1 gallon tank, fish and a "care sheet" I made for them. It took me over an hour to tell them step by step how to change the water, and I walked them through how to feed him too. It was fun, but I realized there is more to fish than I realized! I take the steps for granted as they are second nature to me.
Anyway, the boy chose a beautiful red/green/black crowntail and named him "Bubbles." The fish was totally freaked out at first as the boy wanted to stand and watch him, but now he flares and wiggles when anyone walks in the room, it's cute, but they called me when they saw him flaring thinking something was wrong *smile*
They even called when they changed his water for the first time just to make sure everything was done right, which made me feel good about how they are caring for him.
I will ask his mom to send me a picture though so I can share it.
Do you guys have any basic advice I can pass on to them as well? I know two heads are better than one, and TONS are better than two!!
