This saga contiues and now I don't know where to direct my questions - here or in the emergency room? Yet another fish is looking ill - one of my biggest, healthiest Platys. She stopped eating yesterday, is sluggish and hiding on the bottom and doing a lot of open mouth breathing. Those are the only signs so far. I moved her to the HT and started Kanaplex 1/2 dose (hard to dose for a 6 gallon tank). So am I supposed to dose with a 1/2 dose for 6 days straight and then that's it? Can you do additional rounds ike with MI and MII? Also, I checked for velvet and see nothing. Should I add rid Ich+ for good measure? Can you use Rid Ich with Kanaplex? Thanks!

Awe Debs... I'm sorry that another one is ill. Yes... you CAN safely do 2 rounds of Kana... often we don't see a lot of improvement after one round so 2 rounds is okay. But if you see NO improvement at all after 2 rounds... then there is either resistance to the antibiotic or it is not a bacterial infection. And yes... do 1/2 doses every day instead of the recommended full dose every other day. And yes, you can use RidIch+ with Kanaplex. With RI+, you have to do a waterchange before each daily dose (b/c the med removes oxygen from the water)... so dose both at the same time each day and do your partial (or full - depending on your hospital tank) waterchange right before you do your next daily dose. This is the 3rd fish from the same tank, correct? I'm wondering if Ash or Dr. Barb would agree that perhaps medicating the entire tank might help... since we're not 100% sure it is fish TB. This platy's signs are slightly different from the other 2 that displayed the curved spines as well. I'll ask them to take a look when they check in next. I know this is hard Debs... hang in there!! ((Hugs)) Michele

Since the symptoms become apparent so quickly... it seems that treating once the symptoms show up... is already too late. Did all the platies come from the same source? (Purchased from the same store at the same time?) Michele
Yes, they came from the same store, same time. the juvi's were fry born in my tank.

If it is TB, there's a chance that antibiotics might help depress symptoms for a while (but won't stop progression/future symptoms). ~Ash
Is Kana ok for cory cat's and otto's? I'm torn about what to do. Part of me wants to try anything and part of me just wants it all over with already.
