Administrator My marbles are in the tank!
I would definitely isolate her, if you haven't all ready.
I assume you just noticed this bulge. Would you have noticed it if it was there a week ago? A month ago? If it has arisen slowly over time, it may be tumourous, and there's not much we can do.
If it looks more like an ulcer (full of pus, redness around or in the middle of it), then you should consider treating with an antibiotic, like kanaplex, or the combo of Maracyn I and II.
As well, I'd like you to check for velvet.
How are your params?

Since there's no bulge now - and you're not seeing any other symptoms of bacterial infections or tumours, is it possible she might be (or was) constipated (not passing poo)? This might explain the bouyancy (tipping) problem as constipation can lead to swimbladder issues. I would isolate her and attempt fasting for 3-4 days (you can count the current day or two if she hasn't been eating) and follow up with some frozen/thawed/deshelled pea (not canned - it contains salt.) If this is a swimbladder issue, then antibiotics are not usually recommended unless we've tried everything else first with no success... as these problems are rarely caused by bacterial infections. Another thought is - is it possible she is being bullied or chased after incessantly from any of the other fish or a male platy (assuming there is a male explaining the younger ones??)
I'd wait for Ash or Dr. Barb to comment on where you would go from here... but I think isolating her at the very least is wise and keeping her water pristine.... and maybe fast for a few days (and watch for poo.) After fasting, if the bouyancy problem seems to be corrected, I would feed lightly and pre-soak any dried food offered (in a never-seen-soap cup for about 5 mins in some treated tap water.) I hope she gets better, Debs! Michele

Any recent additions to the tank without quarantining? When it was still in the main tank did it ever go out into the open for food or to swim? We may be looking at a little fish that was born with some sort of birth defeat and too weak to thrive, knowing its current size will help us get an idea if its growth is within the normal range. -Shelly
This male Platy was born in my tank. He's about 2 1/2 months old and is a little more than 1/2 inch long. No recent additions to the tank and no other deformed fish. As most baby fish, he was always somewhat shy among the big ones and hung more about the plant leaves on the bottom, but nothing like he is now. Last night he ate nothing. Is there something I could try beside Bloodworms? If he has a curved spine, should he be euthanised? Like I mentioned, the back 1/4 of his body is crved to the side. So that when he does swim, he tends to go in circles. He is the bright orange Platy with black fins.
