Ammonia: 0
Ammonia tester used (salicylate or Nessler-reagent based?):
reagent-based, API two-bottle type
Nitrite:0
Nitrate: 0
Are you testing with dipsticks?:no, only for GH and KH
pH: ~8.5-9.0
KH: right now out of testers but suspect no chnages, always very high KH (as well as GH), I have very hard, alkaline water
Temperature: ~77F
Heater: visitherm stealth
Aeration: just "waterfall effect" from filter
Water change amount/frequency: ~25% weekly
Tank size/how long in operation: 12g Eclipse since March 06 and is cycled
Filtration: Eclipse biowheel
Water additives/conditioners/pH adjusters: Prime
What, how much and how often are the fish/frogs fed: every other day, altnernate b/t thawed bloodworms and brine shrimp, Hikari micropellets, and tropical flakes
Tank inhabitants (number, size and type of fish/frogs): 1 male betta and 3 platys (all female) and live plants
New additions/changes to the tank: none
Unusual findings on the fish/frog: One of the sunset wag platys is VERY swollen today, couldn't get a good pic, pineconed
Unusual behavior: swollen and piceoned platy but still swimming, unfortunately I fed the tank this morning before realizing her current state (frozen/thawed bws and bs); can't tell my 2 sunset wags apart very easily but one of them has been hiding out in the plants more often than usual, could be this one but not 100%; also should not be possibilitity of fry b/c no male present and have had them about 10 months
Medications/what has been tried or done do far: none
Summary of potential fish/frog stressors: was out of town about 8 days and all tanks were fed by lfs manager, possibly overfed but no issues with other tankmates or fish in other tanks. But she was not bloated and pineconed when I returned on Sunday nor yesterday
I don't know if I should put her in QT. All 3 patys and betta can be piggish with food so I try to not overfeed. Unless otherwise advised, I will fast for a few days and watch for poo. I also have a w/c due within next couple days so I will do that as well but all water parameters are normal (temp, pH, etc) She is still swimming OK and not acting peculiar in any way.
Hopefully a big poop and some fasting will take care of this. I will also buy some peas to give her one in case she needs to go and cannot.
Any other advice appreciated. I prefer not to medicate and move her to QT at this time unless absolutely needed. I don't think the other fish in tank will starve if the whole tank fasted a few days.
TIA, Stephanie
