Hello
Im new here but Im having a problem(s) and I dont trust the people at the local shop to help so here goes.
June.
My kids worked for getting fish (something special) so we made it a family thing. We got a 36ga curved face corner tank with base and 5 fish to stock it.
4 - 2 white 1 silver and one black (Male) dalmations
2 red Mickey mouse
I had fish when I was younger and got the tank going fine.
Late July
Silver Dalmation goes belly up but births 2 frie
Mid August
One of the White Dalmations gave birth and died in the fake vegitation right after I had cleaned the tank.
Didn't see her or them anywhere until the water went south Literaily overnight
I discovered the fries when I was getting ready to clean the gravel and drain clean and down the tank.
Did a 60% water change adding the water slowly (through syphon) so as not to disturb or hurt the fish.
I used tap water with the declorinator drops. All went well but it took me about a month to balance the Nitrites & Nitrates. No Loses and I started buying Distiled water to beat out the contaminants. Pricey
September
We get 2 red Fire dwarfs
and a 2" Pleco
Also the female Mickey dies Pregnant (Stress) no Frie
October
Male Mickey seems lonely and kids plead for a trip to get another girl
Instead of a Red we get a gold mickey and two new Dalmations All Female.
I learn that Red Fire dwarfs are always male after I find one floating on the bottom. Very Teritorial
November
Just in time for Turkey day It seems like several happen all at once.
The Gold Mickey births 9 frie I get small 2 galon tank and Isolate them
Within a 2 weeks one of our Dalmations Births 11 Frie
I get a 10 gallon for them but find thm to difficult to net.
I then put the Mickeys into the 10 and left the dalmations be.
December the weekend before Xmas
Fish start to die.
One a day. At first we think its the Pleco cause he is now 7 or 8 " long and more fish are missing then bodiesa are found. Frie are still 11 strong though. seems he likes Dalmation fish.
Here's where I screw up.
I move the Mickeys into the big tank and the Pleco into the 10 gal.
Then
I find one fish
white filmy
Looks like ick. I treat both tanks with the green (cancer causing type 2 carcenogyn)stuff.
alls fine for a week then I loose two of the smaller dalmations into the pump draw. I think dead before they got there.
I clean tank and pum thoroughly replace the ceramic media for the first time all new charcoal, a bag of Nitrate reducer and Foam (I have a Fluval Pump). start the process all over with a 60% water change (distiled)
A day later
thurday My last remaining Fire dwarf looks fat on one side. dies next morning
that afternoon One of my Dalmations is floating at the top and rancid smelling eys clouded but no white ick.
Today I see the golden Mickey Female has a groath on her head. with darkening at center.
I don't know what's up here my kids are learning that things die very quickly with this.
Help please?
John
