Well it's been revamped and new subtrate has been put in. I also removed three of the bulbs as they had not sprouted yet, one was getting mushy. One has two 4 inch sprouts on it already. It is a Lily
I have
An amozon sword
Melon sword
Banana plant
wendtii (purple and green)
green bushy grass
Flat white and green grass
cardinal something
Lily bulb
Something that looks like lake seaweed.
The seaweed plant was full of algea I actually scrubbed it up pretty good before rooting it in the tank. All the ohter have been in very good condition coming from the store.
So far everything looks happy and healthy, no wilting, no browning, no signs of algea or slime or snails.
My light heats up my tank, so I swaped out the glass top for a mesh/screen lid used for ilzards and such.
My light is a regular double bulb unit for fish tanks. The bulbs are 18 inches long and 15 watts each, so that gives me 30 watts. One of the bulbs is just a plain aquarium bulb but the other is a Coralife Actinic blue bulb used for corals and plants with a rating of 7200K. I don't know if this good bad or what......it's still all a learning/experiment thing right now. Both ladies at both LFS said this was a good light, one of the stores specializes in ponds and plants.............
My wild life is 5 harliquins, 2 ADF and 2 ghost shrimp.
Everyone seems happy.
I'm sure I have too many plants in there, for now it looks quite beautiful, I guess in order to keep it from becoming out of control I will need to do a lot of gardening.
One lady tried to sell me some moneywort today but it just looked like it could over take a tank in days, so I said no thanks.
If this tank is a success my plan is to plant all of my tanks!!
I have a large plastic pond for the yard that is currently in the basement, I was thinking of maybe keeping some cuttings in it for future use............I have an extra grow bulb, all I need is another ballast and I'm in business!
I'll post pictures of the new improved swamp as soon as I am able to remove some water stains from the front of the tank, they only seem to show up on the camera, so this could be a challenge.
Schmoop, thanks for dragging me over here and encouraging me with the live plants. Every time some one complements my tanks my son pipes up, "Those are all alive in there" Obviously it is his favorite.
