I had a rather unpleasant event this weekend. I went out of town Saturday and came in late that evening to find CJ at the bottom of the tank, dead on his back.
CJ has not been sick or discolored lately. When I found him, his color was good and he had not gotten stiff. I don't think he had been gone for very long. He had some blue blood accumulation in his chest area, but I suspect that was post mortem blood release, which has been reported on dead frogs and fish before. He had not grown any post mortem fungus, which is also common.
CJ and Dunkin had some type of fungus / bacterial infection around August last year (their 1 yr birthday), and I almost lost them both. When they stopped eating, CJ was the first frog I was able to get eating again with Pedialyte baths.
This has left me sad, as I was not expecting it
I checked the water params closely afterwards. Dunkin is still subject to fluid buildup and will need another aspiration soon.
I had shopped for them Saturday and bought a fresh supply of food and some Maracyn 2 to keep on hand. I had browsed the ADF population at the store that day, which appeared healthy and energetic
I went back Sunday and brought home Pip. Pip is going through some BC treatment and will later join Dunkin as a new roomie, as I didn't want him to live alone.
