Hi Sorry havent replied for ages....
My fish are doing really well, but the eggs were not fertilized as none grew into baby fish. The largest fish chunk (I understand is the female now) she produced eggs again a few weeks later but these all got eaten in a few days and again I dont think were fertilized by the male fish.
Was interesting to see though, on a different note the fish do seem to have plenty of room to swim around the other oranda are much smaller and the water conditions are good. I do have to do a 25% water change each week which is fine and the filter I have is a very big one so now established is keeping ontop of the waste produced by the fish.
So far so good they are all happy and healthy. The female which laid the eggs seemed to get a bit tired after she had a small sign of swim bladder when I purchased her as she was always a little heavier on the head area when swimming but I used some swim bladder treatment for her just for a few days and she is much better now. I think she got tired as I saw the male fish chasing her around to release eggs.
I wondered why they didnt do their job lol they chased chunk around the tank and she then released a second set of eggs and still they were not fertilized as the male fish obviously didnt do their bit? I thought this would have followed on naturally after they had got the female to release eggs?
When I get a chance I will post up piccies of my fish I have taken loads lol will post them on a new thread
