The vet asked if i wanted to send a sample to pathology to get a exact cause of the liver failure. I decided not to. I'm happy with the vets diagnosis, i was in the room while he cut Fred open to examine him. The vet showed me his liver and explained everything to me, but even he said he couldn't tell me exactly what Mycotoxins caused the liver failure unless i did the tests. It wasn't putting my hands in the tank that caused the problem. The more than likely cause was putting wet fingers into his freeze dried food, then sealing the lid making an ideal enviroment for Mycotoxins to grow. Then feeding the food to my fish day after day. In turn making him sick. I have never had a fish get ill like Fred did. Other than Fred not having any protruding scales, yes it was more than likely Dropsy (as Ash had first suggested). Once again, I thank everyone for thier advice.
