Hello everyone,
The results of the post mortum. Fred died of Liver failure. He was full of water, not gases. His liver was a pale orange in colour, when it should be a deep red. The vet looked at Fred before doing anything and told me it was a bacterial disease. He told me that there was nothing that could have been done for Fred. liver failure is caused by Mycotoxins, a mould that can grow in the food we feed our fish too small for the naked eye to see. The main cause, wet fingers in the Fishes food! It can take weeks for signs to develop, but by then it is already too late. In my case I put it back to when I was feeding Fred Freeze dried Tubiflex tablets. because you stick them to the wall of the tank, my fingers were sometimes wet when getting another block from the container. Something I didn't even consider. So a lesson learnt for me, and maybe helped some of you out there too.
