My wife went to pet supply that's near a friends place.
After explaining the problems to the owner there (who is really into fish), he felt it was bacterial and recommended Tetracycline for full treatment of both tanks. There is only enough in the box only treat my tanks for 2 days and they tell you need to treat for at least four doses. so I started yesterday and will have to pick up more for tomorrow.
It may be to late for my female golden Mickey but none of the others have ulcers at this time and my hope is that I can stop the problem before the two Dalmatians that appear to be pregnant birth. I vacuumed yesterday and replenished the water by treating tap. I plan to vac this afternoon and once a day till the fish are better.
Pleco has been fine but I did notice some scuffing mid body on his side so I am treating him too.
It was asked How he got so big so fast and what I feed him. Before I put him into the small tank he eat the stuff off the objects and glass in my 36 gal as well as Top fin Algae Thins. I've read they eat vegetables but none I've tried seem to perk his interest. When I got him/her (how do you tell with Pleco's ?) it was only the length of my index finger from tip to mid part of my third digit. I recently held a tap measure under the level of the gravel so as not to scare him and he is almost 8 "long and thick [think large chicken egg). that's why we wanted to get him away from the tempting population of fri when the fish started dying and disappearing. I wasn't convinced he was doing anything bad but to avoid the problem I went with the family conscious.
Anyone else have other food suggestions for Pleco's?
I will update as to the treatment.
John
