Yes, you can try to wipe it off with a Qtip.

As for the 3 gallon, are you doing 100% changes?
I am always concerned about using filters on 3G or smaller tanks
because they are very difficult to keep a cycle going.
They always seem to short circuit,
leaving residual ammonia and nitrite.
Have you checked levels lately?

Hi, thanks for the reply.  Well it doesn't look like a piece of left over shed that's developed fuzz, I check him very carefully every day since the CF experience and I'm hoping I would have noticed anything lingering.  He's been coming to the corner a lot tonight (he's hungry) so I've had several good looks and it does look more like a small build up of spikey fuzz, like a cartoon bunny rabbit but not as full or large.

I checked my levels a few days ago, and did a quick test before posting this reply.  I have the API Freshwater Master liquid test kit, and my nitrites are 0, my PH is 6.8, nitrates are very low - not exactly at the yellow 0 ppm color and not quite dark enough for the 5.0 pmm color, it's possibly at about 3.  This particular tank has been set up since about mid February.

Now about my ammonia, the last few API tests have been reading 0.50 ppm, and AmQuel+ has been used meanwhile to neutralize.  I also have a Seachem Ammonia Alert card which has never alerted of any ammonia, has always remained in the Safe 0.02 ppm zone.  Prior to nuking my tank due to the CF scare my API test would read 0.25, so 0.50 is abnormal for me.  I probably won't explain this right and hopefully I understood things correctly, but I once asked why the difference in readings between the ammonia card and the API test, and I was told the API kit tests the total ammonia in the water, so not necessarily just the really bad toxic stuff, whereas the card can distinguish between the toxic and tolerable and only monitors for toxic ammonia.  But 0.50 pmm is still abnormal for my tank.

No, I don't do 100% changes, only partials about twice a week and AmQuel+ dosages.  I'm usually on a different forum, but I like the medical advice and various suggestions from here.  Seems like different groups have different opinions about using a filter on 3 gallons or smaller, but most experts do seem to agree that it's difficult to successfully cycle a small tank.  My only concern about doing 100% changes is stressing the frog or exposing it to extreme parameter changes.  I do have a 5 gallon tank in the attic that needs a little sealing, seems like the best thing to do is move the frog into that which would probably cycle more successfully.  I am interested in trying bottled nitrifying bacteria and bottled waste eating bacteria.

So about the fuzz, should I just wipe it off and keep an eye on it?  Or should I try to treat it?  What happens if I wipe it off and it does not grow back, should I still be concerned?

Thanks again!
