Hey Kaysea,

I'm sorry she seems to be going backwards now. I think you're right that the clamped fins do make her swim funny. I've seen this myself in bettas that are sick.

Kaysea, she sounded like she was improving... would you say that she started to go "backwards" after you stopped the QC? If so...

Dr. Barb or Ash... if this is the case, would you recommend she start the QC again, or try Maracide (again)? (Note: Kaysea tried Maracide initially but she thought she had a bad reaction to it... however, it was more likely coincidental that she flashed right after she dosed the med). Your thoughts?

As well... Dr. Barb & Ash... she is doing 2xM2 and 1.5x M1.

Is she starting to look bloated anywhere, any scales sticking out? If so, then you could increase the temperature to 84-86F but you would have to provide oxygenation (an airstone).

If she is not swollen nor has any scales sticking out ... since she is in an unfiltered tank... I wouldn't increase the temperature more than what you have it at b/c higher temperatures water hold less oxygen. I'd say not to fuss with the water except for ensuring it stays pristine, unless she is starting to swell or her scales are lifting.

Believe me, I know how hard it is to just wait and see how she responds. We've all been through it... and it's truly a helpless feeling... but you ARE doing everything you can for her... hopefully, she'll turn around. It's just very hard to say what's going to happen. We're all keeping good thoughts for the both of you.

Michele

P.S. For feeding bloodworms, we recommend a total of 3-5 per day. Since she is ill... maybe offer 3-4 per day total but broken down into 2-3 meals per day. I always go by the longest, juiciest bloodworm in my cup that would equal 1 betta pellet. I'd estimate that the bloodworm would be almost 1/2" long. I hope that helps... however, in her weakened state... maybe offering a couple of smaller/skinnier pieces (1/8 - 1/4" long) at each feeding, if she'll accept them.
