Hey Kaysea,

Sorry you've had a rough time last night and today. I've been trying to get on here all day... but it's been a busy day, and I suspect it's the same for the others right now.

Hmmm.... a violent reaction to Maracide is pretty rare... it's actually considered mild for sensitive fish, including young frylings. It may have been coincidental that she started flashing after you dosed the med... or maybe there was a mild irritation that caused this b/c her gills are inflamed, likely from the velvet.

How long did the flashing last? Did she settle down after a bit before you changed her out?

The only other med that we recommend that is effective and generally tolerated well is RidIch+, however, it's considered a bit stronger. You could try this, but you should do a 25% waterchange daily prior to dosing the RI+ as it depletes the oxygen content in the water. Or... you could try Maracide again, and see if she has a similar reaction.

If you previously put the med directly in the tank... maybe try mixing it in some siphoned out tank water first and then pouring it in... and being careful not to pour it directly on your betta?? As well... how much did you administer?

The white spots you saw... do they look like salt or sugar grains... or do they look a bit bigger than that and maybe fuzzy? The fuzziness may indicate a fungal or flex infection... if so, we would recommend antibiotics (Maracyn/Maracyn2 OR Kanaplex).

I know how you feel, Kaysea... these little fish have a way of stealing chunks of our hearts. I hope she responds more favourably to treatment. Keeping good thoughts for her! Please continue to keep us posted!
