Yes, they'll do fine for a couple of weeks on them, then get them going on the bbs. I've raised them on both live and frozen bbs. If you have some
green water and first foods like the vinegar eels for them from the start you won't find it so hard. The whole process is a fair bit of work though feeding
and cleaning at all stages. Seeing them morph into cute little froglets makes it all worth while though.

Well, the adult frogs are still cranking out eggs as fast as I can raise/kill them. I think my eyes may be deceiving me but I think I have 2 males because I
saw one in amplexus that was not the new guy! Will check tomorrow...
I'm trying to figure out a way to make it as easy as possible to raise them in a classroom setting...where a BS hatchery would be a bit tedious. I could always bring them once a day. Do you think they'd be able to take newly hatched mosquito larvae by the 3 week mark? That would be a really easy way to do it. Simply harvest egg rafts and float them in the tad tank. The two tadpoles I have left are growing and are so cute! haha. But seriously they look like they are sad all the time with that weird mouth of theirs. |

I don't see why fresh mosquito larva wouldn't work well. Bringing in fresh BBS daily might also work but they're best fed within the first 18 hours
of hatching themselves as that's when all the best nutrients are still in and with them. After that they start to change a bit themselves and are looking
for foods and have almost finished their own egg sacs and aren't as nutricious.

Received walterworms and vinegar eels today. The youngest tadpoles were observed reacting to them so it seems like good news. I am left with one tadpole from the oldest batch. The smaller one was found laying on the bottom, and had troubles with buoyancy. Seems to happen to most tads that perish. Older tads hunting skills have improved somewhat. |

I just checked on them and see 2 big tadpole swimming around. What is going on? Do they play dead just to make us nervous?

I am glad to hear that the older two are doing well and that you have some more options for food for the younger ones! The "playing dead" thing may
be their zen pose but could also be cause for concern, just keep a close eye on them, but we know you are already doing that. JBOT had one little tad that
would play dead all the time, aptly named Goat for those fainting goats. Any chance for pics?

Hummm....well, that tadpole has now keeled over again(laying on the bottom upside down). It does indeed sounds like the story of Goat. Anyway I will leave
him/her be and we'll see what happens.
Also, I finally got and added some mosquito egg rafts to their tank. I can't wait to see them hunt these. Photos soon. Don't expect anything really good quality as it is hard to take pictures through plastic. |

Here is JBOT's story of raising the tads and the story of Goat.

Ok, my own Goat is now moving around again! Sad to see that eventually Goat didn't make it.
The newly hatched mozzies work perfectly for the two larger tadpoles |

Great to hear the 2 big tads are doing well. Yes, it was sad to see JBOT's Goat not make it, especially when we were all pulling for him. I really hope
your Goat pulls through this. They are so fragile at this age. Best wishes to you and your froggers!

Thanks for the pic! How old is that one?

This is the oldest/biggest tadpole. Approaching the size of a m&m mini

This mosquito larvae thing is working great for the remaining two tads(but you still need to start them on something smaller). "goat II" has not
fainted on me or quite a while but is only half the size of his sibling.
I basically got a white 5 gallon bucket...filled it with a mix of tap/pond water, and then filled an old stocking with some banana peels, old pet food etc. Bucket water begins to smell and get cloudy but the stocking keeps the gunk contained. I've been collecting anywhere from 3-8 rafts every day. Sure is doing some damage to the local mozzie population! |

Glad to hear GoatII hasn't fainted and the feeding is going well. Please do keep us posted!

Btw, when should I expect to see legs?
Well, I might have jinxed myself as Goat II is not out and about today...but he/she could be hiding. |

Todley's breeding article says about 4 weeks and you should start seeing leg buds.
How is the little one doing? |

Goat II I have given up for dead.
I need to check the dates, but on the survivor I see limb buds forming! almost the size of a pea now and dives for the bottom when I approach the tank. |

I am sorry about the little one. He was a fighter. Great news on the big fella. I hope all goes well!
