I caught her on Sunday.
She just started coming around out of nowhere, she wasn't a member of any of the feral colonies
around here, and she was eating so much and was so skinny I was concerned she was a stray.
I then noticed an abcess on her hip,so I got her in to the clinic right away.
(this was all done thru Fix out Ferals, a local free service to spay feral cats to stop the overpopulation)
Had to trap her with a live trap they use for raccoons, and I tie fishing
line to the spring trap door, so when the cat I want to catch goes in, I cut the line
from inside the house, springing shut the cage door. That's my version of "cat huntin"
Lo and behold, this kitty is old, and sickly. We thought she was a boy at first,
but they confirmed it was a girl. And she was already spayed, they realized this after they cut her open....
She had a very hard time waking after the surgery,
and the vet said it's because of other overlying health problems she has
She finally woke up an hour or 2 ago, and she seems to be coming around though
When they told me that she was spayed already, I thought that I grabbed a neighbors cat
and they would be mad that I got the eat "tipped", to show the cat was feral....
Then the vet came out and explained , No, she's a stray, very old, and she might not pull thru this because she's so unhealthy.
She said that cats who take a long time to wake up after surgery usually have big internal issues.
Man, that just broke me up.
So she seems like she was once a house cat, as she's hasn't hissed at me at all.
She's very hungry, I can't believe how much she has been eating.
I think she's had a very rough go of things... looks very resigned to whatever happens.
Maybe her poor health has to do with being starved before she found my cat's feeding station.
I told her she can stay and eat my food as long as she likes....
I've grown very fond of this cat now. She's missing a bunch of teeth, but she's
very cute in a raggedy sort of way.
I need to keep her in the garage for at least a week to give the full round of antibiotics,
then I'll see if she's going to stick around.
This is the type of cat I would love to have as a rescue, because she really needs one,
but she'll have to be an outside cat as my GF is very allergic.
But she seems to get along with my cats well enough (mutual ignoring)
so I hope there is a happy ending for the time she has left.
