I have driven past this aquarium shop about a hundred times and never stopped in. So finally, the other day after work I popped in and was very impressed! I was even able to finally find Hikari blister packs of bloodworms, no more San Francisco Bay brand for me! The cubes are about 3 times the size, and the SFB brands cubes were always like 50% water! So I was pleased, I even got a 10% discount for working at PetSmart. Anyways, I of course browsed the fish. And they had a big albino ACF! I've never seen one in person, but I immediately knew I would have to add some of these chubby guys to my "collection."
Now, people have said that ACF and ADF care is not all that different, but I think it is. For one, the care sheet on this forum states that one frog needs 10 gallons of water to itself, but I have read many conflicting statements and opinions on that. I mean, my axolotls are going to get much larger than the ACF's, and they are fine in a 20 gallon that's not even filled all the way. Of course, they don't swim around very often, but they have lots of space and the cave type ornament is on one side under the filter to disperse the flow and slow the current. It's cycled and stays very clean. I don't know, I've read a lot of conflicting information and just want help figuring everything out.
For an adult male and an adult female, what would be an appropriate tank size? I would cycle it and have a filter on it, and I do weekly water changes, usually over 20%.
Speaking of filters, do these guys really need almost no current? I know on my axie tank since it's not fully filled the internal filters pour is stronger. What filters would everyone suggest?
Substrate. I have river rock pebbles in the ADF tank, smooth and way too large to swallow. In the axie tank I use sand, play sand from Lowe's. What about ACF's?
Are there good breeders or ways to get healthy tadpoles so I don't have to worry about chytrid? I got my ADF's from a large chain store, and was told the likelyhood of them having the fungus was great. My one female seemed to have it, and I treated them all with Lamisil, but lost Abigail later on. I got the axolotls from a well known breeder and have not worried about chytrid. I would like to do the same if I can if I choose to get ACF's. I would actually like to find someone to get a healthy adult female ADF from as well.
Is their base diet bloodworms as well? That's pretty much all I give the ADF's, but partly because they are so little. Can ACF's have earthworms as well? And salmon pellets? I wouldn't mind sharing the axies food, just don't tell them ;]
Is there anything I should know?
