We moved our office around and I thought that I had carefully packed up all the aquarium stuff. And, mostly, I did. Except that now I cannot find the two pieces of the intake tube for the filter! Grrrr. I'm looking around for a seller of replacement parts now. Can anyone recommend a reliable (online is okay) supplier? For whatever reason, I am finding plenty of suppliers of Eclipse 12 parts ... not so many for the Eclipse 3. Hmmm. Also, to any McGyvers out there, is there some sort of DIY thing I can jimmy-rig just as easily ... maybe involving tubing and rubberbands? And I suppose the dang thing might still turn up but I've turned the place upside down looking for it. Thanks in advance. Part #16"

Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Report Post	I know it wouldn't be as pretty, but have you tried taking part of it to Home Depot or Lowes or a place that sells PVC piping? I use PVC ALL THE TIME in gecko enclosures. The stuff is fantastic and comes in so many different gauges. I'm sure you could seal it off with some aquarium sealant if it's not a tight enough fit. If you do get some, you'll need a hacksaw to cut it. If you don't have a hacksaw, many of those places will cut it for you.

Is it just the tube, or are you also missing the piece that attaches it to the filter, or are you missing the "grill" bottom section? I believe Big Al's sells a lot of replacement parts for their tanks... maybe some generic pieces will fit? You could also try getting in touch with Marineland (the makers of the Eclipse)... maybe you can get them directly through them or they can recommend a retailer close to you?? Michele

It's good to know that DIY isn't out of the question, Itsybelle. Thanks for the PVC suggestion. I'll try Big Al's and, if I can find the time, the lfs's. Online is so much easier! One more question: I'm drumroll about to start a new cycle in the tank. Is it okay to turn on the filter without the intake tube? There are no fish in the tank so no one is in danger of getting suctioned. I hate to lose any time getting the cycling going. Thanks.

Here's the link to their parts page (type intake tube or filter parts into the search bar to the left). The owner's name is Gary and he's FANTASTIC to work with. He has had this store for years. I wish you could all go visit. He's got the most amazing selection of both fresh and saltwater fish....and three MASSIVE display tanks. He's also got the largest and oldest koi that I've ever seen in a special indoor pond in the front of the store. Anyone visiting the Jersey Shore should check him out. Is this post too much of an ad? If you can't find what you need there, call him. He'd be sure to know what it is and send it to you.

Hey, do you guys think it's okay to be running the filter without the intake tube in the meantime? There are no fishes that will be put in peril, and the intake tube did not add much in the way of filtration anyway. I really want to get going on the cycling.

I cycled two tanks with no intake tube... just a short piece that's attached to the main connector. ....granted, there were no fish in the tank and I didn't have fine gravel. To be extra cautious, maybe you could run it if there's a small tube and put a never seen soap nylon over it so nothing could be sucked up?

One of us must have been reading the others mind! I have some lovely, seamless, never-seen-soap, black sheer stockings in the fish kit that will do the trick.

They sell plastic tubing, suitable for drinking water I believe, in hardware stores so that might work if you can't get an original. We use some of that tubing on our python gravel cleaner. Not certain it would work, though. I would try to get the original part longterm . . . then again I check my filters every day so I am a bit filter-paranoid. t

I really expected you to say that there is a test out there for filters! ... and then to recommend that I get one. The good news first: the little stub that sticks down out of the filter is underwater. So I am going to live dangerously like Itsybelle and start cycling without the full intake/strainer setup. Shelly, thanks for the link. I am a little spooked that their strainer looks very different from mine. I am not confident enough yet as a wannabe aquarium-ologist to do anything vaguely not by the book. I decided to take Pegzee's advice and go straight to the source. When I went to Marineland's website to find their contact info, imagine my delight to find this! They have a wonderful, interactive parts page that allows you to click on what you're missing, identifies it for you, and allows you to order it then and there! And their photos of the missing intake and strainer (or "stainer" , as their invoice reads) look exactly like my originals ... so no cold feet here. By the way, the strainer comes in a pack of two, so if anyone wants one, I'm happy to share the love and send it to you. Let me know. Thanks all. I'll be checking the mail daily now for the parts.

A protective device against slow leaks (a bucket around external cannisters). 2. A "stop the foam pop-up device" for AquaClears (use tape on the cover - haven't tried that one but the Hagen Rep recommended it . . . you would still need to check it for gunk in case it becomes so gunked that it even pushed off the tape). 3. Fin damage control "BioFoam" round filters fit right over most impellers. Gosh, no tests . . . that is worrisome. I am losing my touch . . . t
